it's always a relief when i'm able to scrap photos that have been gathering dust in my storage bin. these photos were not actually theme-related, reason why it took me that long to have these scrapped.

i used here the "he said" march kit from a walk down memory lane. the combination of colors were really more masculine but i was able to make it work with my photos.

i handcut the patterned paper to create the swirls of vines & flowers. i also used a studio azul grid stamp to create the pattern on the cardstock.

fate really has a way of dictating what can happen. whoever though then that we would be together. at a time when we were enjoying our single lives, our paths crossed to bring us together. love really is mysterious. (march '09)

birthday card

here's a birthday card i created using the april kit - shrooms and buds from a walk down memory lane. this is one of my last projects for awdml as part of their design team. it was a fun experience designing for lisa and she is such a supportive boss for the entire design team.

incidentally, they have an ongoing design team call. you may want to check it out and send in your application.

nelo

last saturday was nelo's birthday. he's in his late 30's already, as in nearing the end of it. lol!

we celebrated his birthday quite simply. it was just lunch with family. we attended mass late in the afternoon. and, waited for the earth hour at 8:30pm. another year to be thankful for everything.

here's a layout for nelo i created a few weeks before his birthday.

distressed edge technique

I’ve always loved the distress look on my scrapbook layouts. It gives the paper the extra texture and a bit of dimension. It can also create a vintage look for your design if you place ink or stains over it.

Sometimes though, just using a paper distresser or a sanding block just isn’t enough for the distressed edge that I want. I tried running it under a faucet of water and discovered that I like the effect.

I’d like to share this simple technique with you. Try it out and see the effect it can do for your layouts.

Materials:
- Patterned Paper - I suggest using Making Memories papers. They are the Featured Manufacturer for the month at AWDML. All Making Memories products are 15% off through March 31.
- Paper Distresser
- Foam Brush
- Small amount of water

Steps:
- Using a paper distresser, distress the edges of your patterned paper. Just distress enough to have a frayed edge. - After distressing, get a foam brush and dip in water.
- Brush the wet foam over the distressed edges. This will soften up the edges, which will help you further distress it using your fingers.
- Note: Wet a sizeable area of your patterned paper so it doesn’t dry up as you go along distressing it.


- While the edges are wet, curl it using your fingers (as shown in the visual). Curl it to further give it that distressed look. You may do curl it as much as you want based on your preference.


- As an option, you can also run the paper distresser through the edges while it’s still wet.
- After achieving your desired distress look for the paper edges, let it dry. Note that the paper may curl a bit as it dries up.

There you have it! Now you can do what you want on your distressed paper. I inked the edges to highlight it and to create a contrast for my layout. Check out the final layout below. Do try this technique and enjoy the results.

this is another layout i created pre-valentine for a walk down memory lane.

while doing this layout, i initially struggled with the title. i had a hard time finding myself and what i want to write about. but as i was going through the process of creating the ad, it suddenly struck a chord in me. that one thought that is always at the back of my mind.

the emotions i felt as i was finishing this and as i was writing my journal left me with a heavy heart when i went to sleep that night. these moments come and go for me ever since that day. still, we strive to move forward with our lives. as i said, until then...

Only time can tell when we will be more than just you and me. The time when we can be called a real family. For now, we will continue hoping and praying for God’s blessing upon us. "she said" awdml february kit

the february kit called "she said" for a walk down memory lane store is up. and here are the layouts that i created with this kit. by the way, check out my review of the kit over at the awdml dt blog.

title: time off


this is an 8.5x11 layout that i did for my sil in texas. we've sent this to her via snail mail. i scrapped some of their pictures and my in-laws during their stay there last year.

that's me and my mom during our "rollers" moment. lol!

journal: i miss this little moments we are able to spend together. we look a bit funny in these photos, me sitting on the floor, you tediously fixing my hair and putting on those hair rollers. it's not often that we do this but i loved every minute of it. we get to talk more, share stories, laugh and just be us, bonding like mothers and daughters should. love you mom!

techniques:
i used the tim holtz mask over the layout and sprayed with maya mist. i like the pattern it created plus the spritz over the cardstock was a great accent.
i covered the his & hers chipboard with patterned paper and used the frill as an added touch to the "dress."

pure happiness

this layout is for my mil. again, these are their pictures with my sil and niece during their last u.s trip.

journal: half a year spent with charo, bernard and christabel in texas. quality time with family and new memories to cherish


technique:
i embossed the title to give it an added dimension. unfortunatley, the pix doesn't show it much.
i hand-cut the flower patterns and layered them to create the flowers and used the rhinestone as flower centers.
for the corner accent, i stamped the grid then layered a flower, the his & hers pattern and the journal tag

sweet 16

i forgot to share this layout which i did for a walk down memory lane for the january kit. i know i've been blabbing about how i love this kit so much, but i really do love it!

anyaways, i was able to finish 4 layouts using the kit and i still have enough leftovers which i am planning to use for a mini-book. just haven't gotten around to starting it though.

this is my niece, frances, during her birthday last year. she's quite a lady now and would you believe that she already has a boyfriend. oh my! they really are growing fast. by the way, she's gabby's sister. no favorites here! lol! it's just that these siblings are always willing victims whenever i need a fresh set of pictures to scrap.

i really can't get enough of the january kit from a walk down memory lane. i love the colors and i truly enjoyed working on the kit.

vintage home love

well, my co-dt's at A Walk Down Memory Lane just can't stop raving about the january '09 kit called Vintage Home. and i can't stop too! seriously!

this kits is just full of yummy goodness. there's the adorable vintage moon line from pink paislee as well as the hometown collection from october afternoon. and i just love the black frills that came in with the kit. there were cute little embellies like the chipboard shapes and the little blings from kaiser crafts. totally cool!

i was able to finish 4 layouts with this one. and i still ahve enough leftovers for a small project that i still have to finish. let me share with you 2 of these layouts for now.

scrappy holiday

we were off from work early for the christmas holidays. there was no work already from december 23 until january 4. just actually returned to work last monday. that was almost 2 weeks off.

of course it was a busy season with some last minute shopping and preparations for christmas and new year. not that i shopped a lot nor did i devote a ton of time for the preparations. lol! still it was fun being away from work for a bit more time and there was no need to wake up very early in the morning.

what added to the excitement of the long holidays was more time to scrap for me! woohoo! it was a very productive 2-week vacation. i was able to do 8 layouts and 1 little project. that's a mean feat considering that i tend to take 3 days at a time to finish one layout.

i do hope i'm able to continue churning out more layouts. i still have tons of scrappy backlog and i don't even know if i'll be able to catch up with any of them soon. lol!

holiday magic

i received my december kit from a walk down memory lane last week. but work has been so hectic the past week, it was only last night that i was able to start creating my layouts.


here's the december kit called "christmas magic." the colors of the bo bunny papers are different from the red & green colors i'm used to. this one's predominantly pinks, blues and light green. still, i love it. and there's even a mini-book included from midnight oil. i still have to plan for that one though.


this is a photo of my niece, christabel. i know i used a photo like this before but i just felt this matched the design i wanted.

what christmas hug?

this is the 2nd challenge i issued at the "12 days of christmas" crop at a walk down memory lane.

this is a scraplift challenge. i chose a layout from the latest creating keepsake magazine. i had loads of fun with this layout. i distressed the edges with a paper distresser and by spritzing water. love the effect after.

little whispers

this is the last layout i was able to create from the awdml kits - everyday nonsense.

i love how this layout turned out. that photo of my niece gabby and my nephew migo is just oh so adorable. the mix of greens and orange is so warm and inviting.

everything here is from the awdml kit except the buzz & bloom alphas.

apple of my eyes

this is another layout i created using the awdml "back to school" november kit.

i opted to use black & white photos so it doesn't clash with the colors of the kit.

this photo was actually taken during my birthday. my mom & dad were game enough to pose for me on this one.

this is a tribute page for their 36th year anniversary. their love for each other continues on and i wish them more years together.

november kit at awdml

the november kits for a walk down memory lane have been released already mid-month. i wasn't able to upload some of the layouts i did since i was out the past 2 weeks.

awdml have 2 kits - back to school and everyday nonsense. both kits are quite different that i initially had concerns finding the right photo. still, i made a good start with my first month dt stint with awdml.

this is an ice cream tub that i altered. it's actually a "piggy bank" and the slit is hidden beneath that oval chipboard. it's such an eye candy that it really motivates us to save up!
